Does coffee decrease health risks?

22 January 2021

Drinking eight or ten cups of coffee, whether it’s decaf, caffeinated or instant helps you prolong your life. In fact, drinking lots of coffee was associated with a lower risk of early death, including among people who downed eight or more cups per day, the researchers said. People who drank eight or more cups of coffee a day had a 14 percent lesser risk of over a 10-year study period, compared to those who didn't drink coffee, the researchers found.

"This study may provide reassurance to coffee drinkers," said lead researcher Erikka Loftfield, an epidemiologist at the U.S. National Cancer Institute. For those who drank six to seven cups a day, the risk was cut 16 percent, Loftfield said.
Some of the health benefits associated with drinking coffee are:

 It decreases the occurrence of diseases like Diabetes mellitus, Heart disease, stroke, cancer mainly liver and colorectal cancer, and also liver disease. It’s also associated with age-related nerve diseases like dementia, Alzheimer and Parkinson's disease.
 Helps boost energy
 Increase brain and physical activities.
 Decrease depression
 Consists of nutrients that are important for your body. Consists of about 1000 biologically important nutrients most important once being vitamin B2, vitamin B5, vitamin B3, Magnesium, and Potassium.

In conclusion, coffee is immensely beneficial to our body, it helps improve our metabolism and heightens brain activity which in turn leads to an increase in physical activity, leading to a more productive and energetic day. This makes Ethiopia uniquely advantageous, as we are not only the origin place to a variety of renowned Arabica coffees but also enjoy a long-standing tradition of drinking coffee gathered with friends and family typically up to three times a day, enjoying the “Buna Ceremony” which entails Roasting coffee beans over an open fire on the traditional roasting tool called “Mankeshekesha” classically served with traditional snacks called “Buna Qurs”.
