The ECTA and Illy Coffee partner up to work on coffee quality.
Illy Coffee is an Italian company that markets coffee-related products in approximately 140 countries worldwide. Besides its major commercial operations, Illy Coffee is engaged in various coffee education programs through its coffee university, Università del caffè ("University of Coffee), and numerous platforms. Illy Coffee and The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) announced the signing of an agreement aimed at increasing coffee quality from cherry to cup.
Through this joint program, Illy Coffee will be offering specialized courses to professionals in the supply chain, ranging from regenerative agriculture to coffee roasting, from sensory analysis to the preparation of coffee in the cup. Illy’s CEO, Cristina Scocchia, emphasized the global industry’s high regard for Ethiopian Arabica coffee and pointed out the synergies needed to bring higher qualities and sustainability to coffee communities. The rigorous program will take place at ECTA’s Coffee Training Center (CTC). It is to be recalled that the Coffee Training Center has graduated high-caliber coffee-cupping trainees for three rounds.
The 10th Cafe Show China kicked off in Beijing.
The annual Chinese coffee expo will run from September 1-3, 2023, in Beijing, China, and host numerous exhibitions and networking opportunities. Recent data from the ECTA shows China ranked 8th among the largest Ethiopian coffee importers, next to Japan and the UAE and just above Italy.
