The authority announced its plan in exporting 6 million green coffee bags & along with 2 billion USD earnings. This will come with an ambitious & additional 1.1 million bags compared to the volumes exported in the past Ethiopian FY. It is to be recalled that Germany, USA & Saudi Arabia imported close to 49% of Ethiopia’s export produce.
Ethiopia’s first free trade zone, Dire Dawa FTZ was inaugurated on August 14, 2022, aiming to increase efficiency and reduce logistics time and cost while increasing import substitution and export revenue, job creation, and skill transfer. The free trade zone is 300 km far from Djibouti port, 500 km from Berbera port, and 2.5 km from Dire Dawa dry port promising to be a transport & logistics operation hub. The contribution of the FTZ to Ethiopian coffee export will be a case that we look forward to seeing keenily for a commodity that depends upon the Djibouti route for most of its overseas journey.
