The Weekend, the Canadian four-time Grammy Award winner, joins the coffee business.
Everyone has their favorite beverages and drinks. While there is a beverage to suit every taste and situation, coffee is one of the top beverages used by people worldwide. This is deeply rooted in nations with advanced coffee cultures, where the beverage is enjoyed by different classes of society. The US is such a great example, with coffee being the nation’s favorite drink.
The drink has also been a favorite of numerous celebrities and, for some, a very serious business. Movie actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, an Academy Award winner, and Hugh Jackman, an Australian Globe Award winner, both own coffee businesses. Dicaprio launched the Lyon coffee brand in 2012, which produces roasted coffees with coffees sourced from Colombia. The Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award winner, Hugh Jackman, runs a coffee business with a famous coffee brand labeled "The Laughing Man," with coffees sourced from Ethiopia and Peru. Besides the online sales of coffee, the Laughing Man Coffee Company runs more than 60 coffee shops, with the majority of coffee imported from Ethiopia. The Canadian singer The Weekend has joined this list with his new Samra Origins roasted coffee line, named after his Ethiopian immigrant mother. Through this product line, Samra Origins and Bluebottle Coffee will work in collaboration to release higher-quality coffee products with limited orders available.
Despite the decreased trade of the new harvest, the better ways for Ethiopian coffee seem to continue, with Ethiopia’s coffee excellent performances at the African Fine Coffee Association's Taste of Harvest (AFCA-TOH). It should be noted that both the natural and washed processed coffee categories were won by Ethiopian coffees, with Sinopia's AFCA-TOH Ethiopia Taste of Harvest 2023 award-winning natural coffees ranking fourth.
