It is to be recalled that the Ethiopian Tea and Coffee Authority's (ECTA) Coffee Training Center has graduated high-caliber coffee-cupping trainees for two rounds. This week has seen the center's ten first barista graduates and a third round of twenty coffee-cupping professionals. Certificates were also presented to 13 trainees trained in coffee roasting.
At the event, ECTA’s DG, Adunga Debela (Ph.D.), noted the various works underway to mitigate challenges in the value chain, particularly in coffee quality control, by providing quality coffee education. Ms.Aurelia Partrizia from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, for her part, emphasized the bright future for Ethiopian coffees compared to other origins due to favorable climate conditions, which are expected to continue in the next few decades.
The 2023 edition of the Africa Food Awards welcomed more than 100 entries across Africa, with 50 primary and sub-categories. Ethiopia-based Wild Coffee won the title of Rising Star African Food Company of the Year. The Ethiopian-based roastery and coffee shop announced its plans to open its first Nairobi-based coffee house, "International Wild Coffee Tasting House".It is to be recalled that Ethiopian coffee exporters won the continent’s highest-ranking coffee award title for the Natural and Washed coffee categories at AFCA-TOH 2022–23 in Kigali, Rwanda, taking first place in the natural category and ranking second in the washed coffee category. Our naturally processed Guji Grade 1 made it to the top four scoring 86.15.
