The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) latest report forecasts an increase in coffee imports for the leading import destinations. According to the latest report, European Union imports are expected to reach 47.5 million bags, up by 3 million bags, accounting for 40% of the world’s coffee bean imports. Among the Union’s nations, Germany leads Europe’s green coffee imports with close to 35% of annual coffee imports.
The report strengthens forecasts for North America, represented by the United States importing the world’s second-largest amount of coffee. According to the report, the US’s coffee imports are expected to increase by 2.5 million bags, reaching 26.5 million bags. In 2023–24’s coffee production overview, the report forecasted global production reaching 178.6 million, up by 2.5% from the previous year. It is to be recalled that USDA's latest report forecasted Ethiopia’s 2023–24 total coffee production to reach 8.35 million bags (501,000 MT), up by 0.96% compared to the 2022–23 coffee year (CY Oct 2023–Sep 2023).
This year’s European Speciality Coffee Association’s (SCA) World of Coffee (WOC) presented more than 400 companies from June 22–24, 2023, taking place at the Athens Metropolitan Expo Center. Each year, the SCA partners with a coffee-producing country to highlight the work of its farmers and the unique characteristics of their coffees, and this year, WOC Europe presented Guatemalan coffee as the official origin brand of the event.
